Burn the Letter – Letting Go Ritual
Sometimes there are things you want to put into words without keeping them. A thought you keep returning to, something you wish you had said, a frustration you want to leave behind, or simply something you're ready to let go of.
I built Burn the Letter as a small digital ritual for those moments. Write whatever is on your mind, click Burn the Letter, and watch the paper slowly burn away with glowing embers and drifting ash. Once it's gone, it's gone.
Everything happens directly in your browser and nothing you write is ever saved or uploaded. There are no accounts, no history, and no cloud storage—just a private space to write something down and let it disappear.
What you can do
- Write freely on a simple digital sheet of paper
- Burn your letter with an animated burning effect
- Watch glowing embers and ash drift away as the paper disappears
- Start again with a completely fresh page whenever you want
- Use the experience as many times as you like
- Run everything directly in your web browser
- Use the tool completely offline after downloading
- Keep everything you write entirely on your own device
Perfect for
- 🔥Letting go of thoughts you've been carrying around
- 💭Writing down something you want to stop dwelling on
- ✉️Unsent letters and words you don't actually want to send
- 🌙Quiet moments of personal reflection
- 🍂Marking the end of a chapter, habit, experience, or difficult moment
- 🔒Anyone who wants a private space to write without creating a permanent record
Why I made it
Not everything we write needs to become a journal entry, note, or document that we keep forever. Sometimes the act of writing something down is useful precisely because we can leave it behind afterward.
I wanted Burn the Letter to make that process feel a little more tangible than simply typing something and pressing delete. Watching the paper gradually burn away turns it into a small symbolic ritual: write what you need to write, decide when you're ready, and then let it disappear.
Privacy was also important to me. Your writing isn't sent anywhere, stored in your browser, or added to a history. Once you burn the letter, refresh the page, or close the tab, it cannot be recovered.
Burn the Letter is designed as a small symbolic experience for personal reflection rather than a mental health or therapeutic tool.
